Kathmandu: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the party must move forward by embracing inclusiveness and taking responsibility for the nation’s future.
Congress Entrusted With National Responsibility
Addressing a program organized in Lalitpur on Monday, Thapa said history has once again placed a major responsibility on the Nepali Congress. He recalled the party’s past role in steering the country out of conflict and said a similar responsibility now lies with the Congress to guide Nepal through current challenges.
Accept Mistakes, Reconnect With the People
General Secretary Thapa urged party leaders and cadres to go among the people with confidence, honesty and humility. He stressed the need to openly acknowledge past shortcomings and commit to correcting them. According to him, if the party works sincerely and responsibly, electoral success will follow naturally.
“If we do good work, voters will follow us on their own,” Thapa said, adding that the Congress should become a party that people choose willingly rather than one that has to ask for votes.
Elections Won Through Performance, Not Provocation
Thapa emphasized that elections are won through performance and credibility, not by inciting or provoking the public. He clarified that the Nepali Congress does not believe in stirring unrest or manipulating crowds, taking an indirect swipe at the CPN-UML.
Commitment to Peace and Accountability
He also stated that incidents that occurred on Bhadra 23 and 24 would be investigated and appropriate action taken. Thapa said it is the responsibility of the Nepali Congress to ease public anger and dissatisfaction and to maintain social harmony.
Concluding his remarks, Thapa called on party members to act responsibly and inclusively, saying that only by earning public trust can the Congress fulfill its historic role once again.
